Innovation Compass, Public Policy Lab
Innovation Compass is a web platform and self-assessment tool that helps underrepresented innovators navigate a fragmented, bureaucratic federal funding system and see what to do next.
As product design lead, I designed the desktop and mobile experience and built the digital design system, scaling a visual identity across the product. I led prototyping, design QA, and user testing, including writing the plan and scripts and facilitating twenty sessions. That testing drove redesigns of the navigation and taxonomy, the quiz results page, and a plain-language glossary.
Every innovator in the 25-person pilot, selected from 176 applicants, improved their Compass Quiz results. The platform is now live, its code is open source, and implementation partners include Cambio Labs, the Center on Rural Innovation, and the HBCU Founders Initiative.
